Teaching Staff include: Mrs Irene Perkins and Mrs Sue Clarke The STLA Department is all about teamwork. We support mainstream students, from Year 7 through to Year 12, with their schoolwork and examinations. We provide this support through Homework Club, Special Provisions, team teaching and withdrawal from class for intensive reading work. Our wonderful students, assisting as readers, writers and tutors, are an integral part of this team. Reading and writing are very important skills at school. Parents can help their children to be competent and confident readers by reading to them and with them, and by urging them to read for information and pleasure. Problems with reading and writing can make school life more difficult, but with hard work, determination and teamwork, students can still achieve success. Mrs Clark co-ordinates the tutor groups, consisting of older tutors assisting year 7 and 8 students with their classwork. Tutoring happens three times a week for about 20 minutes. The tutors do a great job, helping their year 7 and 8 partners revise for exams, practise skills and read over notes for different subjects. There is also time for free reading. At Kingswood High School there is NO EXCUSE for missed homework or assignments because “It was too hard,” or “I didn’t know where to start”. Our advice to students is: check with the class teacher first, then COME TO HOMEWORK CLUB! This is a service that all students can use. In classroom C4, there is at least one teacher every lunchtime (except Thursday) to help with homework and assignments for any subject. If we can’t help you, we’ll find out who can. |
