Penrith Region ~ Indoor Soccer Tournament

The Kingswood High School Indoor Soccer teams recently contested the Penrith Region Championships. Some outstanding soccer was played throughout the tournament, with all teams displaying quality sportsmanship and camaraderie.
The girls U/14’s team provided the most nerve racking of finishes, being down 1-0 in extra time of the semi, they ended up winning 2-1. On to the final they went – the final score resulted in a 1 all draw and they required penalties to split the two teams. After 10 penalties we finally won 2-1 and the girls were elated and the coach’s blood pressure dropped down to a more acceptable level!

The girls U/19’s team also performed well, they won the semi final 3-0 with some great team play and took to the court buoyed by their earlier success. The final was a torrid tussle which resulted in a 1 all draw, after a penalty was awarded to Glenmore Park on the final whistle. Another stand out performance in penalties saw the girls go to win the trophy. Both these teams will go on to contest the State Championships later in the year.

In the U/14’s and U/16’s boys divisions both teams went down at the semi final stage. The under 14’s team improved throughout the day and will be the better for the run. The under 16’s boys team went down in extra time during the semi final, a disappointing result from a very talented team. The boys will have a chance to make amends and try to qualify for the State Championships on Monday 7th April, where they will travel to Katoomba to play in the Blue Mountains region. If all goes to plan we should have 5 teams through to the State Championships.
