High performing students enjoy the stimulation and challenge of working in the talented students program offered at Kingswood High School.
This takes two forms.
- In Year 7 and 8 extension classes have been established where students have the opportunity to work through the curriculum at faster rate. Students in these classes also have the opportunity to work on individualised learning programs in areas of personal interest. To facilitate this the school has established an independent learning centre in the library with computing facilities and access to resource teachers.
Placement in the Year 7 class is based on primary school recommendations and Basic Skills Test results.
- Accelerated progression in particular subjects. This allows students to complete the course requirement of a particular subject, or group of subjects and commence the work of succeeding years, supervised by a mentor teacher.
An example is a student in the Year 8 cohort who is doing Year 10 Mathematics and Computing Studies and will commence Year 11 Preliminary courses in Computing next year.
